Benefits of Veneers
Porcelain veneers can be used to mask a variety of cosmetic concerns and minor structural issues, like chips and cracks. In addition, veneers are often a great choice if you have severely stained teeth that cannot be corrected with traditional teeth whitening procedures. Dr. Sluser may also recommend veneers to improve the appearance of minor orthodontic issues. For example, veneers can be used to address gaps between teeth, and to make worn or irregularly shaped teeth look more uniform.
To determine whether veneers are right for you, you will undergo a thorough consultation with Dr. Sluser. During your appointment, you will discuss your treatment goals and expectations. If you are determined to be a good candidate, Dr. Sluser will help you decide which veneers are right for you, based on your budget and aesthetic concerns.
Before your procedure, Dr. Sluser will numb your teeth and the surrounding gum tissue. Next, he will remove a thin layer of enamel from the front of each treated tooth to make room for the veneer. Once the teeth are prepared, he will take impressions, which will be sent to a dental laboratory. Four Seasons Dental works with several labs, including two local businesses, and he will choose the right lab for your based on your unique treatment plan.
Veneers usually take about three weeks to be completed, though rush orders are available. When your veneers are finished, you will return to our office for a second appointment. During this visit, Dr. Sluser will check the shape and fit of each veneer before etching your teeth to create a better bonding surface. Lastly, he will secure the veneers to your teeth using a specialized dental cement.
LUMINEERS® are a type of minimal-prep veneers, and are often as thin as .2-.3 millimeters. Dr. Sluser can usually bond this type of veneer to your teeth without removing any enamel. Etching, if any, is minimal. Many patients prefer LUMINEERS® because they leave more of the natural tooth structure fully intact. However, LUMINEERS® are not a suitable treatment option for everyone. Dr. Sluser will explain the advantages and disadvantages of LUMINEERS® and help you choose the right option for you during your consultation.
